We are Handcrafted Home LLC!

Brent and Jessica Scheil, a husband and wife team, are the backbone of Handcrafted Home. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic Brent was laid off work and Jessica was sent to work-at-home. In August of 2020, their town, Cedar Rapids, Iowa faced a derecho that caused destructive damage and wiped out a majority of the trees. It was during this time the Scheils decided they would use their skills to start a family business. After completing the formal licensing and insurance process, they were able to fulfill their dreams of stepping away from their jobs and Handcrafted Home LLC was born!

Brent began his journey after college with an interest in culinary arts and business management. He worked various construction trades to build his experience. Through this he learned that he had a knack for woodworking and it is still a passion of his today! After exploring her other options, Jessica decided to put an emphasis on her painting and trim work skills. 

They have over 10 years of experience in the construction world and are proud to offer their services to the Cedar Rapids area! What sets Handcrafted Home apart from the competition in construction is their unmatched energy, cutting edge technology, coupled with traditional techniques and a family focused team to complete each project.

Jessie Scheil - Co-Owner & General Contractor

I'm Jessie. I co-own the company with my talented husband, Brent. I'm a mother to 3 amazing kids, and 2 kids with paws. Before I started the journey of growing a family business, I worked in the claims management field for FMLA and painted house's part time, which is where I sparked an interest in construction. I have a knack for painting & interior design. My favorite thing about being a business owner & contractor is the challenge of it all. God has placed in my heart a willingness to accept that challenge. I love completing projects! We use the newest tools & tech, all of us have different skills that complement each other, and we work hard to earn our five-star rating. I am passionate about what I do. I love creating my own schedule, spending time with my kiddos, and watching our business grow. In my free time, I enjoy parking my camper by the lake, big family get togethers, & I also love to travel to the beach. God is good all the time, and I'm grateful to share this message and this journey with all of you. 

Brent Scheil - Owner & General Contractor

I'm Brent. I own Handcrafted Home LLC with my creative wife, Jessie. I'm a carpenter by trade, I started out making handcrafted Farm style tables, planters, dog kennels, and more. From there I started building privacy fences, decks, and remodeling. I became a contractor to help others build their dreams. I really love having a family business and working on different projects. I like helping people bring their visions to life for their homes. I'm a task-oriented person and I enjoy creating my own schedule. I love coming home to my family every day and spending time with them. I have three kids and two dogs. At home, I like playing with my kids building Legos or doing arts and crafts with them, and in my downtime, I enjoy watching YouTube videos & learning more about the trades. Some of my favorites are Studpack and Victory Concrete. I'm grateful to the Lord to have a business with my family and look forward to the growth of this business and what the future will bring.

Joey Marino - Lead Carpenter

Sup! I'm Joey. I am 27 years old and brother of the co-owner of Handcrafted Home.
I'm not into labels, but if I had to pick one, I'd call myself a Carpenter by trade. I started out painting residential homes over 5 years ago and have been working with my sister and her husband since the start of the family business. My interest in carpentry started when I built my first privacy fence, then a deck, and spent years measuring & cutting wood for both outdoor & indoor projects. 
In my free time, I'm a homebody who enjoys snacks, video games, card games, and relaxation. I'm a favorite uncle to my niece and nephews, and I also enjoy both award winning and underdog music artists who speak to my soul. This may be the most I've ever spoken about myself. I really do enjoy working for the family business because I have earned a valuable skillset and continue to build my talents with each project. I look forward to what my future holds with Handcrafted Home, we love what we do and make a great team. I feel like we all bring something to the table.

Ajay Marino - Carpenter

Hey! I'm Ajay, cousin to the co-owner of Handcrafted Home.
I'm 21 years young and have been working for the family business since 2021. I worked for a moving company previously to build up some muscle and adventured with friends. I have a passion for traveling and recently enjoyed a trip to Hawaii. I've gained a lot of insight into the construction world; I do a lot of tiling and drywalling. I enjoy music, playing cards, socializing, meeting new people, and experiencing new things. I look forward to each new day and the adventure it may bring! What I love about my job is that I get to work with my family and earn a skillset that I consider an investment for my future. Handcrafted Home has brought joy to my life that feels better than just a 9 to 5 job; it feels like I get to do what I love and get paid to do it. And I guess being around family is a plus!

Nick Dvorak - Jobsite Foreman

Hello, my name is Nick. I have been working various construction trades since I was a kid with my dad. My wife & kids are my world. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, fishing, hunting, gardening, & grilling out.

I started working for Handcrafted Home a few years ago, and I am now the jobsite Foreman. I have a solid team & really love what I do. From big jobs to small ones, I put my best foot forward and get it done right.

Jordan Barnes - Apprentice Carpenter

Hey, I'm Jordan! I like football, food, and heavy lifting. In my free time, I like to have a good bowl of Pho. I have been working for Handcrafted Home since 2024, and my favorite projects are the unique home remodels. I have a ton of framing experience, and I enjoy building decks as well. 

David Bradford - Apprentice Carpenter

Hi! I'm David. I was in the private security industry for the last 7 years. Recently, I have taken a special interest in home renovation. I have an amazing wife and family. I enjoy working with my hands and in my spare time, I play drums for my church worship team. I am looking forward to growing with Handcrafted Home and expanding my trade skills!
